I had planned on going out last night to photograph more Christmas light displays, but brrrrrr, it was freezing out. I think it was the coldest night we have had so far this winter. So instead my tree inside had to be my focus. Thank you all for the wonderful comments on my daily yesterday, I was really surprised to see it stay on the front page, greatly appreciated.

Light

I was out taking photos of some of the Christmas light displays in my area. I tried to capture some shots of the bulbs and then got caught up in the bokeh. Lots of play tonight with the camera and PS, not what I was looking for, will be back out tonight.

"I dedicate this house to the Griswold Family Christmas" ~ Clark Griswold~ Christmas Vacation

Down the street from my home there is a neighborhood where every house goes all out in the Christmas illumination. This house is the granddaddy of them all and this picture only displays a third of the full picture. There isn't a spec of land or a piece of the house that is not draped in lights. There is a wishing well where visitors can donate money to our local homeless shelter. This family raises a substantial amount of money every year for the shelter, and everyone in our town enjoys the light display.

Cookies for Santa

This was a small part from yesterdays daily, "I'll be home for Christmas if only in my Dreams". So sweet and heartbreaking at the same time, as you can imagine how many of these letters will be written this Christmas.

I'll be home for Christmas if only in my dreams.

My work series continues, this team went with a military theme honoring all our brave men and woman serving our country overseas.

Margaritaville

Continuing my series of images taken at work of the Christmas cubicle decorating contest. The medical records department went with a beach theme for Santa's vacation which begins on December 26, 2010. The sign under the snowman reads "Reserved For Kris Kringle December 26th". This group even has a CD playing with ocean sounds, their creativity cracks me up. It is going to be a tough vote on Monday, all the cubes are so good.

Team 1 - Enchanted Village
Dianne M. Ward > December 10, 2010

TOG Enchanted Village
(see next pic for the full scene)

The eleven teams in my office were all given one vacant cubicle to decorate for Christmas. Today all the displays were finished and ready for the vote which will take place on Monday. Team 1 chose to create an "Enchanted Village" which occupies two side by side cubes. I am amazed at the amount of work that went in to each and every display. In this particular one each of the elves were hand made, they are really adorable. It is hard to believe that on an ordinary work day this is a cubicle complete with computer, phone, etc. There will be more shots to come as I share with all of you the wonderful festive scenes my co-workers created. I think they are ALL winners, the creativity was wonderful and the effort put into these was amazing.

"Didn't I ever tell you about Bumbles? Bumbles bounce."

The office is in full swing decorating for the holiday season. One of my co-workers has her office all decked out complete with an electronic Bumble from Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. I love this need to get me one for my house.

Meggie-Moo

My favorite pet name for my daughter Meghan has always been Meggie-Moo, not sure why she is a little bit of a thing. I still call her that from time to time and so do her friends. Meghan made this ornament back in 2007 so I guess she likes her nick-name as well. Meghan comes home from her trip abroad in Italy on the 19th, I cannot wait to have her back home with us, we have missed her.

Our Nemo found a home. The day I left for Italy I noticed the clown fish had taken an interest in the toadstool mushroom coral we have in our tank. Well now they are the best of friends. It is so cool to watch him swim in and around all the polyp heads.

Thank you all for the comments on my collage yesterday, greatly appreciated.

Sweet Taste of Italy

A potential entry for the Dgrin current challenge. I had a tough time with this, a recommended software is not MAC friendly. I had to do this from scratch, took me a couple of hours to get the final result.

OPA

This was taken inside the Duomo in Florence. What a beautiful cathedral to spend time in. So much to look at and the shear size of it is amazing. Luckily it wasn't too crowded inside, still had to be patient and ready to grab my shot when no one was in the immediate area.

Thanks for all the comments on my bird lady shot, I am glad to say I made a CLEAN getaway. lol

Bird Lady

My daughter took this shot in San Marco square. I am not as cute nor as gracefully posed as the shot I posted of her a few days ago. She thought I looked like the lady in the Home Alone movie, lol!!!!!

Desert

Another window display this time from a bakery in Venice. Everything looks so yummy!

I was asked yesterday what kind of processing I did on yesterdays daily. I applied the Topaz Adjust Detailed filter to bring out all the details. I applied a bit of sharpening from there. I then duplicated the layer in PS, applied a Gaussian Blur filter adjusting the setting so that you could only faintly make out what the subject was. I then switched the blending mode to "overlay" and adjusted the opacity to somewhere around 40. The last step adds a really nice effect, I use it often.
